A Few Pages of History
Jennifer Schalliol was born a bit on the early side one late summer in Ohio. She lived the first half of her childhood in a Little College Town, spending considerable time in the company of her grandmother, from whom she gained her love of all things art. Her grandmother was the one to discover – and encourage – wee Jen’s first literary endeavors. Also, Grandma taught her how to dance the jitterbug, gave Jennifer her first book of contemporary poetry, and generally kept her out of trouble. Years later, the fabulous Grandma introduced Jen to Kenyon College, which was to be her alma mater. Jen graduated magna cum laude in 2002, with a degree in English and an emphasis in Creative Writing. Later, she attended the MFA program in Writing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, one of the leading programs in the nation. Now Jen lives and works in Chicago, writing poetry, short fiction, nonfiction, and hybrids. She avoids gluten and enjoys small people, and she visits that Ohio grandmother whenever she can.
